What is a VPN, and what does it do?
A VPN, or virtual private network, is a service that sends your internet connection, encrypted, through another server, so sites see that server’s address instead of yours, and the Wi-Fi network you’re on can’t see what you browse.
How does it work?
You install the service’s app and pick a country, and all your traffic leaves from a server there.
The company running the service can see what you visit, so choosing one means trusting it.
What doesn’t it do?
A VPN only changes your address. It doesn’t stop sites recognising you when you sign in, or through cookies and your device fingerprint.
And free VPNs?
Many free services earn from their users’ data or from ads, so read the privacy policy before you install one.
And m7bok?
m7bok is a browser, not a VPN, and it doesn’t change your address. What it does is something else: it blocks trackers, keeps each site’s cookies to that site, and lets each site see you as a separate device.
And if you have a VPN, it works with m7bok like with any browser.
